CONCEPT
This continuing education program aims to lift morale and reduce stress while teaching important psychological concepts. Its goal is to help you lighten up by learning the concepts and the application of positive humor. Psychiatry recognizes the positive use of humor as one of five mature involuntary coping mechanisms. Given the coronavirus pandemic and the unprecedented political divisions within our country, the need for such a training program to deal with stress and lighten up has never been greater. More importantly, everybody needs help today . . . not when the pandemic is over!
This may be news to many, because humor is frequently thought to be a frivolous appendage that prevents work from getting done. In some cases, that may be true. But when it comes to the deep workings of the human mind, such coping mechanisms allow individuals to reduce stress by altering how these events are perceived. They can keep anxiety, shame, fear, and guilt within bearable limits during a crisis or sudden conflicts with conscience and culture.
